Every photograph in the Places Remembered collection originates from a genuine vintage colour slide or negative, capturing real places, people and everyday life as they appeared decades ago.
We do not artificially colourise black-and-white photographs. The colours you see were captured in the original images, providing an authentic glimpse into the past.
To bring these historic photographs back to life, we use modern digital restoration techniques, including AI-assisted enhancement, to improve sharpness, colour, brightness and clarity while preserving the character of the original scene.
Our aim is restoration, not reinvention.We do not deliberately add or remove people, buildings, vehicles or other features, or dramatically alter scenes simply to make them more appealing. We may brighten a dull sky, enhance faded colours or improve the clarity of an image, but we always strive to remain faithful to the original photograph, preserving its historical character rather than creating an idealised version of the past.
History is important to us and we’re not trying to change it, but to restore it.
